Socialising

Regular social evenings are regularly held each month.  As our branch area covers such a large area, social activities are organised separately in North Ayrshire, South Ayrshire, East Ayrshire and Wigtownshire.  All members and non-members are welcome to attend. The main focus of these socials is simply to get to know one another and sample good ale.  Non-members will not be pressured into joining but can learn more about the organisation.

Festival Volunteers Trip

A party of over 40 CAMRA volunteers enjoyed a visit to Alloa Real Ale Festival on Saturday, 28th October.  After pick-ups in Kilwinning, Prestwick, Ayr, Kilmarnock and Glasgow our happy bunch headed to Alloa Town Hall, the festival venue.  With beer vouchers duly purchased, a seating area already reseved for us and glasses in hand, we set about sampling some of the 60 ales on offer.  After some 3 hours it was time to move on.  We made the short trip to Larbert and the Station Hotel.  The hospitality was excellent with 5 ales on hand-pull.  Complimentary pies and sausage rolls were provided and disappeared like snow off a dyke.

Beer Of the Festival Presentation

On Saturday 22 April, a party of more than 30 enthusiastic branch members travelled across country to present Black Metal Brewery with the 2016 Beer of the Festival certificate for its Gates of Valhalla.  We were warmly welcomed by owner and heavy metal fan, Jaan Rätsep who gave an entertaining talk about the brewery and encouraged us to enjoy an ale called Battering Ram, a 7.1% IPA which he described as a session ale.  The quirky brewery includes a rehersal area where Jaan and his mates can blast out a few tunes and one member of our party couldn't resist a go on the drums.  Keep up the day job James!

We moved on to Knops Brewery where owner Robert Knops gave us a brief talk on the history of the brewery before taking us on a guided tour.  Again we were encouraged to sample several of the beers on offer.

Before heading back home the group had the opportunity of visiting The Blacksmith's Forge, a JD Wetherspoon outlet in the town of Dalkeith.

The day was a resounding success and a copious quantity of excellent beer was consumed.
